“The
Hallmarks of Stunning Design for the Web”
Is your website a stunner? Maybe it looks great with fancy flash graphics and page transitions, but ranks low on search engine results. Or, perhaps it looks horrible but has fabulous search engine rankings. If either of those is your website, sorry, it’s not a stunner. Stunning website design both looks great and integrates into an overall search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. One without the other won’t do. Here’s just a few characteristics of stunning website design:
- Graphics shouldn’t overload the senses: Stunning website design complements and enhances the overall message and marketing strategy of a website. It isn’t necessarily a highlight reel for an ambitious designer. Instead, it’s often an exercise in subtlety and keeping things simple: a line here or a different color there can make a world of difference.
- Stunning websites are loading websites: Not everyone in the world is on a T1 connection. That’s why any stunning website design is one that will load in a reasonable amount of time, even on a dial-up connection.
- Don’t use extremely small fonts: Not only are they difficult to read, they’re also bad for SEO strategy. Font sizes smaller than 2 points should be reserved for the “fine print,” not website copy you want your visitors to actually read. Search engine spiders actually give greater weight to those words in larger fonts and boldface type, so keep that in mind when you’re deciding what your page headlines will be—it would be great if they included one or more of your website’s hot keywords.
